In I Corinthians 13:13 Paul lists ‘faith, hope and love; but the greatest of these is love’. This whole chapter is about love. In our Christian walk it begins with faith. ‘For by grace are you saved through FAITH’. We accept the fact that Jesus died on the cross to forgive us of our sin. This is a confession of our faith. The next step is acts that prove we live by the faith that we confess. James 2:17 says ‘faith without works is dead’. The statement is in relation to us seeing someone in need and our only reaction is ‘I’ll pray for you; be warmed and clothed’ but do not physically help this person by giving money, food or whatever they need when we have in our possession what they are in need of. Faith works by love. The love of God in our hearts should move us to show this love that we confess by our actions. Hope is the third fruit of the Spirit that we should have. If we have this hope as we are to have it, like faith and love, then we are to share this hope with others by our testimony. Peter says in I Peter 13:15 that we are to be ready to give a reason for this hope we have. We cannot do this if we hide in our homes on Sunday or other church times and do not share with others what God has given us.
