“Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”” Matthew 9:37-38
The harvest is everyone born on this earth. This includes every one of all colors, races,
languages, and nationalities. God created everyone and can speak all languages. Because
we came from Adam and Eve, we are all born in sin and need to be saved by faith in Jesus’
death, burial and resurrection. That is why He said the harvest is plentiful.
All who are born again are the laborers, which is a small percentage of the world population
… so He says that the laborers are few.
In verse 38 we are commanded to pray. Some people are selfish and only pray for them-
selves and their families and friends. Our greatest need is to be born again, and once we are
truly born again we are to look to the harvest field with compassion for those who have no
hope of eternity in Heaven and pray that more and more laborers will go and preach salva-
tion so that all who can be saved from eternal damnation will be saved.
When we pray, we need to ask God to give us a compassion for those who do not know
Jesus as Lord and Savior.
